WORKSHOPS

Beginner bookbinding

The Guild has started to host public workshops on various bookbinding techniques. These workshops aim to present information clearly and simply to any level of experience, and costs are kept to a minimum to enhance accessibility.

Workshops run in 2007 were extremely successful, and more are planned in 2008.

Coming up in 2008:

Book Making for Traditional or Artists Books

Sunday 17th August 2008, 10am - 4pm
This class will introduce the basics of traditional bookbinding. You will make one hard cover book in a traditional case binding style and a second book adapted for a more adventurous style.
10am – 4pm

Courses costs are $85 or $75 for Guild members and include all materials.
Classes are held at the Woden Community Room.

Specialised Guild Workshops

Occasionally special workshops are held for Guild members. Numbers are usually limited, and it is worth booking a place to avoid disappointment.

Other Classes of Interest

Print to Book at Megalo

Caren Florance is teaching this workshop at Megalo from 10am to 5pm on September 13, 2008.

Print to Book is a short workshop for printmakers exploring various methods of converting prints to book structures. It's a wonderful way to transform proofs and misprints, or to develop a distinct body of work within a print practice. Participants are encouraged to bring their own prints, or can work with blank paper (provided) to create maquettes for later reference.

For more information visit the Megalo website or call 02 62414844.

Online technique tutorials

The Guild aims to have an online library of bookbinding techniques, accessible to all interested binders. What we have so far is listed at the left, with more to be added in the future.

ONLINE BOOKBINDING TUTORIALS
