Stories are told

Tuggeranong Arts Centre, 117 Reed St Greenway (overlooking the Lake)

Tuesday to Friday 10am -5pm, Saturday and Sundays 1pm-4pm.

Plan to spend some time at the exhibition because there are so many fascinating books to look at and wonderful stories to read.

The ACT Writers Centre has sponsored an exhibition which challenges the idea of what is a book. In this exhibition books themselves are works of art, yet they still explicitly tell stories. The handmade books being exhibited are diverse, interesting and of a consistently high quality. They have been made by local, interstate and overseas book artists. Includes books by CCBG members.

There is a wide range of book forms in the exhibition from traditionally bound books (such as Barb Adams and Libby Thomas’s book Unfinished Lives) to less traditional forms (such as Eric Davies’ japanese style bound journal about Canberra) and also books in sculptural forms made from non-traditional materials. The subject matter of the stories ranges from sombre subjects like death (such as Maureen Piggins’ concertina book Echo) to delightful children’s stories (such as Susan Bonthron’s book Hen & Duck Get Slim).

The exhibition was curated by Jane Schauer with advice from Caren Florance. Many of the books being shown are for sale.
