BIND CHALLENGE 2018 announced.
Activities – Wordless but expressive…
Calligraphic Marks – Lyndell Dobbs and Carol Perron team up, demonstrating calligraphic marks. Both have attended calligraphy workshops with tutors Massimo Polello and Olive Bull, who have an interest in the form of the book as a container for calligraphy.
Wordless books – Wendy Taylor is demonstrating her process of making a wordless book. Inspired by Italian designer Bruno Munari.ank space
April , 2018
Activity – Share and learn aka Show and Tell
At the February meeting Wendy gave us all a cover and pages to take home to make our own individual wordless book as a homage to Bruno Munari and his Libri illeggibili. These will be on show when we next meet on 12 April.
Activities – Book and paper …
Sewn in boards – Wendy Taylor is giving us an introduction to Gary Frost’s sewn in boards book. This is an elegant adaptation of an ancient method of board attachment where a stiffened board becomes the outer signature and forms the cover. It opens completely flat and looks like a modern case binding. Quick and easy to make and uses very little adhesive – so no long waiting times for it to dry.
Momigami paper – Ros Humphreys recently visited Japan. Ros will show us how to make our own ‘momi’ (means kneaded literally in Japanese) gami paper. It is so strong that it is not only suitable for covers in book binding but for making clothes.
AGM: please make sure your membership is current and come along and discuss the achievements of your Guild and what’s in store in the year ahead.
Guild 18 – please bring along your books for the exhibition.
